The newest member of our staff team, Krystal Jenie Pirani, is our Events & Development Manager.
What is your environmental and/or film passion?
Moving from Canada, the country with the largest supply of freshwater in the world, to an area experiencing severe drought has been a real eye-opener for me. I used to take water for granted, but now realize how important and precious it is to our delicate planet. Sometimes it takes seeing something through someone else's perspective to really understand it. That's why I think film is so important in motivating people to make real changes in the world.
Why did you want to join the SFGFF team?
When I joined the SFGFF team, I just wanted to be able to do something good for the planet. I didn't know a lot about green films though. I thought they were boring documentaries for science geeks.
Was I ever wrong!
A few weeks later I attended my first screening - Valley Uprising. It was essentially about dumpster-diving hippies throwing wild parties while setting insane climbing records in Yosemite. I nearly fainted when someone went slacklining practically in the sky. It was horrendous and it was amazing!
What is your role in the team?
I help the team find sponsors to support our various programs. I also help coordinate and set up large and small events like the opening and closing night receptions, as well as filmmaker receptions.
What are you most excited about for the 6th SF Green Film Festival?
I'm excited to see what films are chosen this year and to meet people so that I can hear what they have to say!
