SFGFF Co-Presents: Dispatches from the Gulf
Green Film Fest is pleased to co-present the Dispatches from the Gulf 2: Research, Innovation, and Discovery program at the 16th Annual International Ocean Film Festival, March 8 at Cowell Theater at Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture.
Years after the Deepwater Horizon’s disastrous platform blowout, scientists from around the world converge on the Gulf of Mexico, to study its lasting impacts. Barely half the pre-spill dolphin population survives, their calves dying or aborted. Fish hearts can’t beat properly; crab burrows leak oily rivulets into wetlands. Will this ecosystem recover? Is this our future?
(Hal Weiner, USA, 2017, 57 min.)
This program also includes four compelling short films about marine science and wildlife.

SFGFF RECOMMENDS: WOMAN AT WAR
Meet an unlikely hero, a woman with a mission that she pursues with extreme dedication. Halla (Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir) is a fifty-year-old independent woman with a quiet routine as a popular choir director in a small country town. But she leads a double life as a passionate environmental activist, engaged in secret warfare against the giant power company that is (in her opinion) desecrating the countryside and hastening global warming. She is ingenious and energetic in her attacks, using a bow and arrow to bring down towering electric pylons, evading a huge manhunt by the police and having a national impact.
