We're excited to announce the 2019 Festival Theme: HOME.
This year’s Home theme encompasses a broad range of critical issues including affordable housing, migration, sustainable cities, habitat loss, and more. Dive into these conversations with us September 24th - 29th, 2019 at venues throughout the Bay Area.
In the face of shocking revelations in two recent United Nations reports on Housing and Biodiversity, it’s clear that the global climate crisis is more widespread and critical than ever before. For individuals, families, communities, nations, and ecosystems, all of our homes are at perilous risk. With decisive elections just around the corner and a pivotal Green New Deal at stake, now is the time more than ever to share global stories that educate, inspire, and ignite change that can save all of our homes.
“Home” means something different to everyone, and at this year’s festival we will be delving into the global conversation within this deeply personal framework. Throughout the Festival we will ask, “What does home mean to you, and how can we work together to protect it?”.
Use #HomeIsWhere @greenfilmfest to let us know what HOME means to you.

Green Film Fest Co-Presents at SF Jewish Film Festival: Picture of His Life
Since 1980, the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, presented by the Jewish Film Institute, is the largest and longest-running festival of its kind and a leader in the curation and presentation of new film and media exploring the complexities of Jewish life around history, culture, and identity as well as films that reflect life through a Jewish lens.
In Picture of His Life, world-famous underwater still photographer Amos Nachoum is determined to get the "picture of his life," a polar bear up close and personal, a task considered not only dangerous, but maybe impossible. While painting a portrait of Nachoum's inner life, filmmakers Dani Menkin and Yonatan Nir follow his quest, and we come to understand why Nachoum feels that getting close to nature brings peace and joy.

We hope you had a happy Independence Day: Read for more on the modern, green, revolutionary American spirit!
This year, let's take a look back at some of the revolutionary, environmentally woke women of our time.
July 4th celebrates America's revolt against British Tyrants. These three films highlight women who revolutionized the way we look at and care about the natural world. The warrior women of the Red Power Movement, filmmaker Jewell-Kemker, and environmentalist Jane Goodall all reflect the spirit of revolution that AOC is broadcasting today.
Sundance-winning eco-thriller, Sea of Shadows, is coming to Theaters July 12th
National Geographic Documentary Films and Executive Producer Leonardo DiCaprio have come together to create this riveting new documentary - following a team of dedicated scientists, conservationists, investigative journalists, and undercover agents as well as the Mexican Navy as they put their lives on the line, standing up to drug cartels and Chinese traffickers who are poaching the rare totoaba fish in the Sea of Cortez.
As these deadly methods threaten all marine life in the region, including the critically endangered Vaquita, this courageous team works to bring the vicious international crime syndicate to justice.
