Announcing our 2018 Festival Theme

On the eve of the Global Climate Action Summit, bringing leaders from around the world to San Francisco to support the Paris Climate Agreement, we’re acutely aware of this global moment of flux. In 2018, we are all adapting to our changing climate, political forces, environmental threats and more.

Embracing this, we announce our 2018 Festival theme: It’s Elemental.

We’ll be bringing you programs & discussions structured around the four elements - earth, water, fire, and air – and how they are creating multifaceted perspectives on climate issues.

Change isn’t just necessary: It’s Elemental.

2018 Festival updates

It’s now 100 days until our city hosts the Summit and we couldn’t be more excited for all of the global groups, organizations, people and partners that will be traveling to San Francisco for the occasion. We’re honored that Green Film Fest will be at the heart of the week’s activities, bringing the latest green stories, ideas, and actions from around the world to big screens near you.

You can expect new venues, partners, and experiences this year: In addition to the Summit, we’re thrilled to be partnering with special events across the city such as the COAL+ICE festival & exhibit, the Rise for Climate March, as well as groups coming in from all over the planet. Get the full details at our Program Announcement Party on August 1 - and join us at the global celebrations from September 6-13 for the eighth edition of our festival!

There’s still time to get involved. We’re seeking companies and individuals to underwrite screenings & guest participation. Your support goes a very long way to making our programs happen and sparking green ideas and actions for Bay Area residents. Become a Sponsor or join as a Member and see your name up in lights for our opening night at the Castro Theatre on September 6!

Onwards,
Rachel

{stills from TWELVE PIANOS [left, right] & the filmmakers playing piano at the 2017 Green Film Festival [center]}

WATCH AGAIN: TWELVE PIANOS, a 2017 Green Film Festival Audience Favorite

Mermell and ffortissimo have brought pianos to the cliffs of the California coast, the streets of San Francisco and, for their notable Flower Piano events, the Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park. It all began in 2013, when ffortissimo rolled an old grand piano onto the bluffs of Half Moon Bay, and continued with surprise public appearances of pianos that could be played under the open sky by both professionals and passersby.

It was a festival hit last year at Green Film Fest! Catch the film again on June 28 at the California Film Institute.
