Opening Night Premiere: Bikes vs. Cars // 8:00pm
Fredrik Gertten, Sweden, 2015, 90 min
English/Swedish/Portuguese with English subtitles
California Premiere.
Gridlock is wasting people’s time, polluting the air and contributing to climate change. Bikes vs. Cars launches the 2015 Festival focus on Changing Cities. From award-winning director and journalist Fredrik Gertten (BANANAS!*, Big Boys Gone Bananas!*) and executive producer Chris Paine (Who Killed the Electric Car?, Revenge of the Electric Car), the film investigates the daily global spectacle of bikes and traffic.
Activists and cities around the world are moving towards two-wheels. But will the economic powers allow it? From the crusades of bike activists in car-centric Sao Paulo and Los Angeles, to the city of Copenhagen where forty percent commute daily by bike, Bikes vs. Cars considers the possible revolutionary changes to our cities if we made room for bicyclists.
Discussion with: Chris Paine, executive producer; Dan Koeppel, bike activist and film's subject
