8:00 PM ~ OPENING NIGHT FILM PREMIERE: DAMNATION San Francisco Premiere
Our national attitude towards dams is changing. From pride in big dams as feats of engineering, there is now a growing awareness that we can bring back the life and health of our rivers. In DamNation we see how dam removal moved beyond the fictional Monkey Wrench Gang to go mainstream. We see obsolete dams come down, rivers bound back to life, giving salmon and other wild fish the right of return to primeval spawning grounds, after decades without access. Winner of the Audience Award at the 2014 SXSW festival, the film's majestic cinematography and unexpected discoveries move through rivers and landscapes altered by dams and the personal stories of people fighting to bring rivers back to their natural state.
