Be a Changemaker

We can all be changemakers: Someone that stands up to the social & environmental challenges we face and follows through with making a difference.

We will all have our own way to take action and inspire our friends and networks to join in. Take part!

BUILD YOUR OWN ACTIONS*

What is the most pressing environmental concern? Find the topic you care about most and the problem you want to solve.

Make friends. Most actions are carried out by more than one person - and we're stronger together, so find others to plan and act with you. Some activists call this an affinity group: people acting on their own behalf, but brought together by the issue that they want to campaign on, tactics they want to use, or a skill that they share.

Choose your target:

  1. The Government. Demand policy changes from all levels - district representatives, mayors, Congress, President, the UN.
  2. The Public. Inspire behavior change, motivate action, and create a mandate for political and corporate progress.
  3. Corporations & Industry. Stop emissions at their source, challenge climate criminals and don't let planet-plundering companies profit.

Think about your message. Which facts are most frightening? Why are you worried about it now? Who can make things better and how? Who will benefit if things change?

What do you want to achieve? If you can't express this in a sentence, your demand is likely to get lost. Think about a short and snappy answer and this will help with your messaging.

Consider your tactics. What are your skills and strengths? Be strategic: are you aiming for a good photo in the paper or to impact emissions, or both? Have fun, be creative and decide as a group how you're going to achieve your goals.

Put your plan into action. Draw up an action plan, set out the logistics and then TAKE ACTION.

And Remember. "You have to make more noise than anybody else, you have to make yourself more obtrusive than anybody else, you have to fill all the papers more than anybody else, in fact you have to be there all the time and see that they do not snow you under, if you are really going to get your reform realized." ~ Emmeline Pankhurst
